NCCGA Capitol Regional 1
Dogwood Trace Golf Course
American University Club Golf Team competed in it’s first tournament of the Fall 2012 season October 6-7 at Dogwood Trace Golf Course in Petersburg, VA. The team was represented by Andrew Crawford, Max Gerhards, Nick Tedesco, Chris Naylon, Kevin Vernimb, James Connors, and Justin Baumgartner. The first round was played under beautiful blue skies and warm temperatures, which led to some impressive scores. Andrew Crawford led the way with a stellar 75 (+3) on the 6,800 yard layout. He posted three birdies on the day with four bogeys and a double bogey to lead the way for AU. Nick Tedesco, competing in his first ever collegiate event, fired a solid 80 (+8) while veteran Max Gerhards, posted a respectable 84 (+12). Chris Naylon and James Connors posted scores of 90 (+18) and 95 (+23) to round out the top 5 after Day 1.
Day 2 began under frigid conditions and the threat of serious rain and thunderstorms. Nevertheless, the team took the course looking to build on it’s solid start the day before. Unfortunately after three short holes, the rains came and play was suspended temporarily. During the rain delay, it was determined that we would shorten the Second Round to 9-holes. At the conclusion of a soaking wet and freezing Day 2, Andrew Crawford and Max Gerhards had posted team best scores of 41 (+5).
After the scores were tallied, the team finished in 7th place out of 10 teams, with a cumulative score of (+64). Andrew Crawford’s two-day total of 8-over par was good enough for a tie for 8th place out of 75 golfers, for which he took home All-Tournament Team honors.

NCCGA Capitol Regional 2
Lake View Golf Club
The AU Club Golf Team got back on the road two short weeks after their seventh-place finish in Capitol Regional 1, and headed west to Harrisonburg Virginia for the second Capitol Regional Tournament. This team was made up of Andrew Crawford, Max Gerhards, Chris Naylon, Christine Voisinet, James Connors, Justin Baumgartner, and Leah Stoltz. Day 1 began and shortly thereafter it was clear this tournament was not going to be favorable for American. Nearly every player made some big blunders on the course whether it was off the tee, from the fairway, or on the greens. Max Gerhards was the only player to post a score under 90 in the first round, with a respectable 85 (+13)
The second round did not prove any more fruitful for the team. Once again, Max Gerhards was the only golfer on the team to break 90, posting an 88 (+16), while James Connors posted a 90 (+18). The team finished 10th out of 11 teams, and walked away from Lake View disappointed, but looking to the future with invaluable experience and good memories under their belts.
